LP Gas Information:

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG or LP gas) is a fuel gas which contains a flammable mixture of hydrocarbon gases, specifically propane, propylene, butylene, isobutane and n-butane.

LPG is a versatile energy, which can be used to meet just about any energy requirement. It is safe, affordable, and can be used quite easily in both residential and commercial industries. It provides our customer the ability to optimize and save on the continuous rising energy costs.

 LPG can be used:

  • Heating
  • Cooking
  • Refrigeration
  • Air-condition
  • Geysers
  • Commercial businesses – equipment

Safety Procedure:

While LP Gas is completely odourless in its natural form, a pungent smelling compound, called ethyl mercapton, is added to the gas in order to make even the smallest leak obvious to detect. Should this unpleasant smell become noticeable, follow this simple but effective safety procedures.

  • Close off the gas supply at the cylinder.
  • Open doors and windows to ventilate the room well.
  • Use soapy water, which will produce a large bubble at the point of any leak, to check cylinder valve, appliance and connections.
  • Do not smoke if there is a strong smell of gas
  • In the event that the leak continues after the gas supply is closed, move the cylinder to a well ventilated area out of doors. Call Green Gas Energy, your local gas supplier.

General Safety:

  • When using any LPG as appliance indoors always keep a window or door slightly open because fresh air is needed for gas to burn correctly.
  • When lighting up any appliance always light the match and then open the gas supply.
  • Regularly check that appliances and fittings are in good condition.
  • When buying a refilled gas cylinder, reject any cylinder that is not in good condition.
  • Because heat will affect the pressure of the LP Gas in the cylinder, it is important to make sure that the cylinder is not stored or placed in a position where it can be subjected to extreme heat.
  • It is important to ensure that the cylinder is always stored in the upright position in a place that is well ventilated.
